Davy Crockett

I just went to Petsmart and bought Davy Crockett, the Clown Loach who is going to eat all of those snails. I like to pretend that the tank is the Alamo, and that he's going to kill a bunch of those snails. There is one snail, in particular, who continues to lay eggs. I have named her Santa Anna. All odds are against Davy... If this attempt fails, I'm buying snail killer and hoping for the best.

Battle of the Snails...

So that "lettuce" trick was a total waste! We put it in at night so the snails would attack it, and by morning they had eaten all of the lettuce, and are now stronger then ever! You know it's going to be a bad day when you lose a fight against a snail.

Grandma G.G.

Jack's Great Grandma, who we call Grandma G.G. (Lisa's mama!) asked me a very good question about the nasty snails, so I thought I would address it in case any of you have tanks or decide to get some.

The plants that we bought for our tank had eggs on them. When we put them in our tank, the eggs hatched and *poof*! Baby snails galore. They don't live long, but they keep laying their eggs in the gravel. We can't see the eggs because they are so small, but there are there. We have cleaned out the gravel but they also have laid them in the accessories and no matter how much we clean, they keep coming back.

I read that prior to putting a plant in your tank, you should soak it in water with snail killer chemicals. We don't want to use the snail killer chemical in our tank as it will kill our baby fish though. So, for now, we have gross little things crawling all over the place. We bought lettuce yesterday and I can't believe I'm actually going to try that trick.

I haven't been able to find a real fish store here in Bend. I think I'm going to just go back to Petsmart and say "Give me a Loach" and see what happens. They are aggressive fish, so I'm hoping I can pick one that is a lover and not a fighter, but loves to eat!

Nasty Snails, Part Deux!

Those nasty snails are still there. And do you want to know why? Well I'm going to tell you anyway. We went to Petsmart first to get a snail eating fish. The girl working there said I needed a big orange goldfish. How much? $13.99. I don't buy any fish that costs more then $2.99. I told her there was another kind that ate snails but I couldn't remember the name. Apparently she didn't know what I was talking about. So, Kevin, Jack, and I just decided to go to Petco. When we get there, Kevin remembers the name of the fish. We tell the guy we want a Loach so it will eat our snails. Guess what! He wouldn't sell it to us! He said we should just put boiled lettuce in there for them to eat, them pull it out when the attach to it. I didn't ask for his opinion, I asked for a Loach. So now I have a bunch of nasty snails and I'm a bit irritated that no one will sell me a Loach!

In other news, Jack is doing lovely. He's doing very well with commands such as "No", "Come here" "Put it down" "don't bite the dog", ya know, the usual. I'm so excited to be coming to be visiting everyone so you all can see how much he has changed. It's like he's a brand new baby!

Meet The Stooges

I finally got some pictures of Jack's new fish. We named the three school fish the Three Stooges, and the red sword tail is Groucho. Jack seems to be enjoying the latest addition.

And yes, that is a Jack Sparrow figurine in our tank. That's how rad we are.

Snapper, Snipper, & Sniper

While living in Reno, Jack had four fish: Krunk, Thing, Murphy & Mr. Reef. Well, Mr. Reef & Thing died (at least I think it was Mr. Reef and Thing, fish are so hard to tell apart!). Apparently I overfeed pets which led to their demise. Anyhoo, with the move to Bend being a 7 hour drive, I didn't feel right forcing the fish to ride in a car that long. Luckily, we were able to find them a good home with Jack's grandma, Lisa. So now his fish are living the Melrose Place lifestyle with Britney, Kevin (not my Kevin, this Kevin is actually a fish), The Twins, Casper & Bob (which are all fish in case you were curious).

Now that we have settled in, Kevin (the person, not the fish) was able to set up Jack's tank for him. We went to the fish store and got Jack three new fishys! Although sometimes I think it's more for us instead of Jack-Jack. Kevin chose a red and black one and named him Snapper. I chose a black one and named him Snipper. And we got an algae eater chosen by the Petsmart girl and named him Sniper because he hides all the time.

So, here are a few pictures of Jack and his new fish. Enjoy!
